Learning to Protect Foster Kids
If you are a longtime reader of our newsletter, you are well aware of our continual advocating for the well-being of children in the foster care system. We have previously shared inadequacies within the system that leave many children to fall through the cracks.
How does this happen? For one, our current laws do little to protect them. Additionally, foster care agencies are often overworked, contract other agencies and neglect to conduct proper background checks on prospective foster families.
On September 14th, Jay Paul Deratany will host a live webinar that will take you through the ins and outs of foster care and adoption cases, including statutes and case law, stories from his clients, and his recommendations for working toward a healthier system.

10% of all proceeds from the webinar will go directly to benefit First Star.
First Star partners with universities and child welfare agencies throughout the country to make a long-term investment in foster youth and change the course of their lives, from abuse and neglect to academic achievement and self-sufficiency. First Star Academies are a long-term college readiness program for high school foster youth that includes four immersive residential summers on a university campus and monthly sessions each school year.
Over 400,000 children are in the foster care system at any given moment, and over 200,000 will have moved through the system during the year. With recent court rulings, we only expect these numbers to rise. These children and youth are some of the most vulnerable members of our society.
Come and be a part of the change in our foster care systems. Learn about the systems’ operation, how and where it’s weakened, and the best processes for a system that guarantees children safe, stable, and supportive homes.
We invite you to join us on September 14th, at the live webinar on ‘Adoption and Foster Care Negligence’.
