A 27-year-old man was killed and another man was ticketed with motor vehicle violations after a two-car accident in Chicago’s Gage Park neighborhood early this morning.
Benito Ruiz Ramirez of the 5500 block of South Fairfield Avenue was pronounced dead at 3:27 a.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, officials said.
Anthony Galvan, 21, of the 2400 block of West 59th Avenue, was ticketed for driving without insurance, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, reckless driving and failure to yield, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.
The accident happened about 2:55 a.m. on the 5800 block of South California Avenue. Galvan was driving a 1998 Chevy Lumina that was traveling the wrong way on 58th Street when he entered the intersection of California Avenue, Kubiak said.
Once Galvan entered the intersection he struck the driver’s side door of Ramirez’ 1996 Buick Regal, which was southbound on California Avenue, Kubiak said.
Galvan and a 20-year-old passenger refused treatment, Kubiak said.
Chicago police are continuing their investigation and criminal charges, in addition to the traffic citations, are expected in the case, Kubiak said.
